All Japanese brochures have the HP rated at 280, the reason for this follows: The Japanese GTO is speed limited to 180 km/h as a result of an agreement between the Japanese government and Japanese car makers. All domestically-produced Japanese cars have a speed limiter set at 180 km/h and "officially" produce no more than approximately 280-285 HP. That is why the official power ratings of the Nissan Skyline GTR, NSX, Supra, RX-7, GTO, Imprezza WRX, Lancer IV are all "280 HP." The Japanese government essentially turns a blind eye to this practice. Factory horsepower claims are a well known joke in Japan. This logic is also why, Japanese motorcyle manufacturers do not sell bikes with over 750cc. For example the Yamaha R1, Honda 1100XX and Suzuki 1300 Hayabusa are not available to Japanese buyers. As far as "real" HP goes the 91-93's came with 300HP and the 94+ came with 320HP (being the result of a slight increase in the boost pressure).
