I've read there is an issue with some permanent 4WD cars to be brake tested for MOT on rollers. Is this a problem with Outlander 1 with 4WD, if is tested on rollers like a 2WD? Can the differential be damaged?

The MOT guidelines clearly state: 'Under NO circumstances must a vehicle equipped with permanent four wheel drive, Limited Slip differentials or belt driven transmissions be brake roller tested'.

But there's no MOT in Romania, so don't worry.

best_x_treme, You can check your brakes on roller under up to 5km/h. It wont damage the differential.

Sorry for false alarm, apologies.

In terms of brake testing - it is strongly recommended some vehicles must NOT be tested on rollers. Test centres have specially designed decelerometers used for that very purpose, therefore vehicle's brakes are being tested on the road. As mentioned before, that applies to permanent 4x4's, belt driven transmissions (like CVT's) and all vehicles equipped with LSD. The best practice is to leave a sticky note on the dash to inform tester about it.

There are multiple posts all around internet about diffs being knackered as a result of testers ignorance and/or negligence in that matter, so I'd insist on it to be tested accordingly. Better safe than sorry.
